Well the first compo has ended and congratulations go to metal for winning with Candybar.xm. I’d forgotten how much time this compo takes up, but its been fun (apart from the intial server problems, thanks for being patient) Unfortunately 3 entries were disqualified for not voting – thunder.it – Doorb.xm – ge-s.it

Comments (In no particular order)
Aux-cg43.it
- Is one of those tunes that’d send me to sleep, it works very well with the samples
Mr_orgns.it
- Catchy melody, best structure out of the lot I felt. Just plain well done, good music is good music! Very nice especially considering the given samples. Nice harmonies.
- The sweet melody is quite tasteful, and it’s got all the elements to make it a catchy tune. It’s got a skinny sound though, which maybe is because of the samples. Really nice tune anyway!
- Goes straight in with a catchy lead, followed by drums adding a groovy, jazzy beat. Flute takes the lead about halfway through, which is a nice contrast to the rest of the song and finished off with a well timed key change near the end of the song. Simple, melodic, brilliant.
- Organize me is so cheezy and got stuck in my head for about 3 days
sunaftrn.it
- Woo! Purdy song! I think it could have been much better
with either better tuned samples (strings?) or just all together different
ones. But very nice themed tune especially for 2hrs of work! Sweet
chord work.
- I felt like I was cruising through an old b-movie, or a sad love scene or credit scrolling of a sad eighties movie.
- Slow, ambient, melodic. Intro with the flute and a swarming mass of strings sets up the tune for a really class break with twin guitars, this man knows which notes work. I could quite happily have this looping all the time, which is why the fadeout at the end is a bit of a shame, but hey, guess you can’t have it looping for a compo.
dlt.it
- Was full of exciting sounds, very alive tune, with replay value !!! Very awesome tune to just sit and listen to, had to listen to this one a coupla times Full of great noise, and sounded almost real, great demo tune.
- While the majority of these tunes were fairly decent, this is one of the only songs in the pack that really stuck out at me. for one, it wasn’t the same old trackercheese that most of the the rest of the entries seemed to be (not that it’s necessarily bad, it’s just that all those songs get lumped together in my head). creative use of the samples, great melodies and flow, excellent work with filters – all in all a great tune.
- The thing that made me give a high score for this tune is it’s energy. Having “energy” isn’t enough in itself though, but this tune seems to be under pretty good control and it never blows up in your face with strange stuff. All in all a balanced tune with enough melodic pieces to keep my mind occupied for a while.
- A very nice blend of filtered chipsounds
almond.it
- Well put together, very clean sounding. Soft for the listening.
Vd-gc34.it
- Hehe love the title. And very theatrical in some parts. Very creepy, you sure you don’t sit in your room too much? Maybe open the drape just a little, maybe the glint of a sunbeam will start the healing process.
Nr-Icf.it
- Not much to say except that it could go as background music in a video game, or in an elevator.
Atomicbt.xm
- Atomic Bottom sounds straight out of a 1995 demo, and there’s nothing wrong with that! Groovy, nice pace, and an interesting lead all combined in a good, if a bit cheezy song. Well done, Sneeka
- The song uses a good amount of chords, and that’s a hard thing to do. It also has enough variations in the melody to keep it interesting. For example, in one part the melody changes to sound sort of like happy hardcore, and makes it sound more positive. That’s a rare thing for demo sort of music. There was a little rhythm variation, but there could have been more, although that’s not necessarily necessary for this type of song.
- Has a very catchy main theme that stayed in my mind some time
- I gave Atomic Bottom the best score because it was well tracked and made good use of the synth samples. The only bad comments to be made are the huge note slides which don’t blend in very well.
Candybar.xm
- Candybar it’s the best because it’s funk,it’s real music the other are original
- Smooth and flowing, the leads are pretty relaxing.
- very nice, dreamy atmosphere .. but for some reason I now have an urge to play transport tycoon.. argh!
- Candybar was also good and got a close joint second from me. It was well tracked and made good use of the samples but I started to lose interest in it half way through.
- Candybar is most solid
idgc43.it
- A really groovy tune. I especially like the bassline, which is really funky. And the lead is also quite groovy. I only wish there were a bit more change to it – it’s a tad too monotone. Besides that I think it’s really good. I also like the sound arrangements. Neat stuff.
- Really nice industrial/jazz tune..gets the foot tapping. Longish intro with drums and soft pads is followed by a radix-esque riff which in turn is followed by flute and guitar. Not much change in the way of chord progressions, but I doesn’t matter, this tune rocks.
Desperat.it
- Just listen to it, GREAT intro, Great chords, Great lead, Everything is great. When I listened to the intro I got goosebumps. The piano is nice tracked. Great use of the “weird” samples. The only thing I would wish in this song is a flute part, then it would had been the ultimate..
- Desperate got the same score. The cheesy piano brought it down a bit, but the rest had a nice original sound and was quite different to everything else in the pack.
C-argame.it
- “alternative style”, but it sounds really good – it’s interesting what you can do with the given samples – and it has a nice progression.
