GroovyCompo #1 Results
Not everyone voted, and I should have disqualified them, but because I had anonymous entries and some phantom voters who I couldn't link to a track, I had to simply let everyone in. Next round however you will *not* get away with it, because I will have a much requested voting form/template. I must also stress that GroovyCompo is NOT anonymous. Basically, I calculated the scores by giving 10 points for each 1st placing, and 9 points for 2nd placing, 8 points for 3rd and so on..
GroovyCompo Comments A lot of people didn't really comment properly. They tried to comment on each
tune and stuff, in which case, their time was completely wasted, because often enough I
only included what This one goes to show you that one doesn't need a bazillion effects to achieve quality music. The crescendos are beautiful, and there's something holistic about the style that makes everything seem to be put together correctly.....simply pleasing to the ear. This song conjured up visions of power in my mind. I dig it when music does that. Not just technically complex and correct (whatever THAT really is), but a tune that actually makes me FEEL something. Hmmm....which is more riveting, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" or Handel's Messiah? This tune moved more akin to the latter. To me, this song sounds unique compared to alot of other tracks out there that are either 4/4 techno (boring) or sound like Nintendo Gameboys (untangible). sephrenia is a very well composed mod. there is nothing lacking to the sound, with the samples provided being implented rather well. It is the only noticably good hard trance entry, and its originality is a fresh relief after listening to the many cheesy/demo/jazz entries. The only improvement I can see, would be to extend the module, and add some other melodies too it so that the entire weight of the music would not have to stand on one variation. #nice beat, great melody, not at all repetative, nice leads, picked this one over 2nd ranked tune because 2nd (soup -mick ) had a repetative beat and the leads were somewhat repetative, overall better than the 2nd ranked tune. Good varieté offering, good environment, original use of samples, nice little details around the song, good breaks. Only one minor point: your background melodyriff in the beginning is getting a nuisanse while it is repeating all the time, put it more into the background or change it's tone-scheme that stands out in the song. Exellent chord proggy, good base line, Very well done to all respects. Exellent Job! What can I say.. If this song was made in a hurry while he was making music for his music-disk then I can't imagine how good his other songs must be. If I should explain why this song beats no.2 it's because it was the only song with a melody you remember. Then I like that soft underwater" sound. No sharp melodyinstruments wich only would have destroyed it. Perfect. That MickRip knows what he's doing. For the respected 10th place I put that merywana tune coz it was really eird and everything and i think that weirdness is good sometimes :) i put grooveme on 9, l&l on 8, salg 7 (cool tune phred) I put that ps-proc on 6 because it had a cool intro and a cool "feeling" to the tune but it was so long and so repetitive and it was really about as twice longer than it should have been so it could be rated higher.. i put "me.it" on the 5th place coz although its shitty intro it had a beautiful "oldtimes" lead somewhere in the middle and i think that catspaw earned his this place, the problem with the tune is that it keeps drasicly changing styles which isn't too great. mr-twl on 4th coz it was really nice although there isn't enough volume to the leads so its hard to hear them good above the background. I gave crmleg the 3rd, ybgc01 got the 2nd because of the great intro, feel and everything in the tune, and savannah by beek got the 1st because it was a bit better than yannis's and had better leads. the other good thing about beek is that he can make a jazz tune out of every samples in the world and make it sound like he would have picked those exact samples himself if you just let him. actually, from some reason, the only sample that did sound to me like someone forced him to put in, was the sample he added :) (really!) Some serious tunage here! Cool funky sound, everything seemed to fit together 1 - This is Groovy? (ME.IT) -> It makes me remember Amiga Old tunes 2 - Thinking of Lies (MR) -> Great Melody but...short. 3 - LegHairTrimmer (Caramel) -> Another short but good track This was a hard one to decide. I picked this one as first pretty much at he last minute because it was the one that I liked the most. It's sort of intangible. The top few songs showed a great amount of skill, and I was having a hard time choosing which song was the best. I hope the top few songs that someone votes on get about the same amount of points, beacuse they were all very good. the tune is simple, funky, mixed well (not muddy in any parts, etc, etc).. it ain't boring.. mickrip's tune was very good but it lacked the 'un-boringness', i think, that caramel's had. both had smooth transitions, and were technically well-tracked, yet caramel's still struck me as being a better tune. I felt the the tune i gave first place deserved to be where it was because it just suited my tastes. Hard and fast =) but it still had variation. This tune won over my second place, cos i thought second place was just missing a bit of the ingredient x? and some structure.. |
